For as long as anyone can remember, Lara has been on the left. Now as a mother, she wants to do right by River, her vibrant three-year-old son. In a time of trickledown economics, they are struggling to survive and River’s daycare, Lara’s work at the corporation, seem their only options. Until one night, out with friends, Lara meets Sean, a no-nukes activist, who presents real alternatives for a just society. In their adventures through the wild ‘80s, man, woman and child, are faced with challenges to determine their future, commitments they must be willing to keep.

"Beginning Home" addresses a mad culture of contrasts, when the nuclear threat had re-emerged in the public consciousness. The novel explores the actions and reactions, of an intriguing cast of characters, as they move away or toward a sane world.
In this strange mix, we are introduced to Alison and Thomas, a cosmopolitan couple, who in setting the trends, meet with many temptations that threaten their marriage. Roxanne, a career woman, whose work no longer fulfills her, begins a journey to discover a new sense of purpose. Michael, in his brutal honesty, reminds us of the values required to claim our democracy, to preserve our planet Earth. Mary, in her wisdom, speaks to the nature of love.

We travel with this bohemian family, as they escape and engage, in their changing relationships, through the glitz and glamour of the posh clubs to sacred peace walks in the street, from Star Wars to the people’s gardens, from cocaine to cleansing, from MTV to the New Age.

Throughout the novel, we are kept wondering what choices each person will make to live as a free human being. Together, we commence the search for a meaningful existence, a unique contribution to the greater good. We too, join in the generous spirit of "Beginning Home," inspired to affirm life, to be truly alive!
