Autism and Emotional Puberty

As if autism was not enough of a roller coaster along comes puberty. Now everything is chaos and we are left trying to figure out our life. Along with the physical changes that occur to our bodies that we will need help processing we also have emotional changes in how we understand our own feelings, thoughts, and emotions. Then we have to understand the changing emotions of others from puberty. One of the biggest mistakes is when we assume that people with autism understand what is going on with their own feelings and emotions. When we do not take the time to talk to them about puberty we are really ignoring a problem that can explode when we feel confused and disoriented from our experience with puberty.
