The poems in Applied Freedom help sustain the fact that we are all human. From the gentle breath of "Crying Tears" to the passion of "Romantic Discovery," Mr. Boychev shows that emotions have an effect on everyone. As much as humans would like to believe that we can shut off our emotional lives, Mr. Boychev reminds us that we are helplessly human. "Savior in Canvas" really brought out my emotions. A blank canvas has so much potential. As metaphoric colors are added, emotions and meanings change. Every poem in this book affected me in a different manner. The poetry contains such raw emotion and passion in every word. Applied Freedom takes a true look at the meaning of life by sharing in human feelings.

Applied Freedom is a compelling poetry book. Nikolay Boychev is an intelligent and forward thinking poet. A novelist has hundreds of pages to create emotion. A poet must create this emotion in a matter of breaths. The raw emotion conveyed in the struggles we find in human nature shape our society. Mr. Boychev proves that we all share in these emotions. This is a unique collection of poetry. Each of the poems, though different in scope, creates a great complement to each poem that precedes it. I have been told that art and literature define a society. I think that Applied Freedom proves this fact in an elegant manner.
