Charlotte couldn’t help but smile. “I think how we ended up saying goodbye last night could tell clearly how I feel about that.”

“So… there was no rushing things? You’re alright with how much this is going?”

She grew serious. “I did believe that you paid any attention to me because I was Theresa’s little sister. But now that we have this chance, I’m really excited to see where this can go. So, no, you’re not scaring me away.”

Those words were like music to Brennan’s ears. He smiled. She could see that blaze of desire in his eyes that was there the other night. Heat coursed through her every fiber. “Why do you look at me like that?” she asked shyly. “What are you thinking right now?”

“But I keep thinking about you and what could have happened if I stayed that I failed to sleep until my body fell asleep on me.”

She giggled. “That’s impossible. How could your body fall asleep on you like that?”

“It did. But right now I’m feeling much more alert and wide awake,” he said.

“I’m so happy to hear that,” Charlotte said. “That means we can talk a lot more about some very important… topics.”

“I could not agree more,” Brennan’s voice had become husky, and the baritone glided through her being like fingers to the strings of a cello. “There are definitely some vital things that we need to discuss. I feel that the sooner we do that the better.”
