Entering World War One against Germany was Americas greatest blunder of the 20th century. America had no reason to join the devastating and stalemated three-years-old struggle. America was never threatened; its security was never at risk. By sending two million doughboys to the Western Front, America shattered the battlefield stalemate and won the war. This allowed Britain and France to impose the devastating peace on Germany which led to German toxic calls for revenge. Had America not entered the war, the two sides, exhausted and running out of manpower, ultimately would have had to negotiate a peace of compromises. There would have been no victor, no vanquished, no punishing Versailles peace, no reparations, no forcing Germany to accept sole guilt for starting the war, no German calls for revenge and thus no Hitler, no World War Two and likely no Cold War. Americas entering the war thus was a gigantic blunder with dreadful decades-long consequences.
