Roger, wanting to escape his unsettled life after an acrimonious breakup with his husband of five years, seeks refuge in Turkey, a complex land of contradictions: at once mysterious and mystical, sacred and profane, ancient and modern, delightful and distressing, chaste and erotic, secure and dangerous. Roger experiences the danger and the eroticism on the trip−a trip leading to an encounter with a monstrous, immortal, evil incarnate.

As Roger makes his way east into Anatolia, frequent encounters with extremely attractive young men frustrate him, for although friendly verging on flirtatious, nothing sexual transpired−except in Roger’s imagination. From Ömer in Ankara, to Fatih in Cappadocia, Nebil in Izmir, and Rohan in Istanbul, all appear cast from the same mold, varying little in height or skin tone, all with dark eyes and hair in the au currantstyle−medium length to slightly longer on top, shorn more closely on the sides and in back, allowing the longer section to either mound up in a pompadour or fall in graceful locks to one side or the other, all depending on the individual’s inclination and amount of gel used. Most intriguing, all four have identical alluring mouths with plump lips parting to reveal blindingly white and evenly formed teeth.

Rohan, to Roger’s immense disbelief and delight, breaks the pattern−going beyond flirting to proposing sharing his bed−thereby prompting Roger’s encounter with the Master, a heinous reincarnation of the monstrous vampyr Ambrogio. The three thousand years old blood drinker, having taken over the body and mind of an American graduate student, reveals his reign of terror in Eastern Europe and the Levant has reached its limits in the Modern Era, and he wished to expand to the Americas. Roger is his selected agent to that effect. Through sexual torment and ecstasy, can Ambrogio−with the help of his four disciples−convince Roger to join his vile plot.
