I felt death all around me I looked him in the face and he looked back! He held my hand and touched my very soul and I was at peace. I knew at that instant there was nothing to fear and so I accepted death and waited to die.
For 17 years I did not know if this was the last day I would be on this earth, I went to bed every night not knowing if I would wake up the next morning and when I left the house if I would come back and there were too many times to count when I thought that I had just taken my last breath. Then I got a second chance at life, 17 days later a doctor stole my future and for the next year or I was back to not knowing if I would live for another day. This is my story.
It was the summer of 1994 and I had taken my son to see his Grandmother. My son and I went down to the park to play a little one on one basketball. I had decided that this time I was not going to let my son beat me in basketball. I figured that he was old enough to understand that I let him win whenever we played. However I was unable to accomplish this, I tried my best but this time I could not move fast enough or keep up with him, he won. My son looked at me and said “dad the next time I see you I want you to be in better shape” but that was not to be!
