Blue Blue Sea was a Thoroughbred horse born on January 22, 1999. His sire (father) was Sea Hero who won the Kentucky Derby in 1993 and then won the "summer derby" the Travers Stakes. His dam (mother) was Alytude a decent racehorse whose own sire, Alysheba, won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes in 1987.

Blue Blue Sea never quite achieved major success on the racetrack and was retired by his last owners in 2004. Miranda N. Prather, his human, found him that year via the CANTER website and it was "love" at first site.

They shared many adventures together. Blue Blue Sea wouldn't go on to be a jumper or show mount, but he would show his tremendous heart and grit when battling several illnesses, the biggest being a malabsorption disorder that gave him recurring bouts of colic (upset tummy). Blue Blue Sea lived more than seven years longer than some veterinarians thought he would.

Sadly and suddenly, Blue Blue Sea died on February 9, 2013, at the age of 14. You can learn more about Blue Blue Sea and other OTTBs at his site: www.facebook.com/blueblueseaottb. Look for an upcoming children's book series based on his life and adventures!
