When his kingdom is ravaged by a sickness spreading its way across Europe, King Phillipe of Burgundy is faced with a dangerous choice when a woman comes to him. Allow his people to be turned into what many would consider monsters – werewolves – and see them live, or refuse, and watch his people perish.

It was an easy choice to make, he was their ruler, he had to do everything he could to ensure their survival, but his choice brought its own difficulties.

Eliana was the ruler of the pack and wolves only followed their alpha. There were too many werewolves for the kingdom to be a single pack however, and his people would only follow him, especially after he secured their future. For a time, it seemed a civil war would break out between those loyal to the king, and those loyal to the alpha.

In the end, his wife Marguerite proposed a solution. He would marry Eliana, take her as a second wife. He didn't want to do it, didn't want to marry the other woman, but Marguerite always had a way of convincing him to do what she wanted him to, and he soon realized she had the same hold over Eliana.
