His inspiring story begins with a girl named Susan who was constantly considered to be 'different' and never quite belonged. Whilst on the road to self-discovery, she struggled and was faced with endless obstacles that would have beaten others. Susan tackled depression, self-harm, emotional and sexual abuse but she has managed to overcome this and now, as Ben, he has discovered his true sense of self.

About the Author

Benjamin MacEllen is a memoirist, lyricist, actor, poet, and activist who has been writing stories, songs, poems and plays since he was a little girl named Susan. He writes and speaks extensively about his experience as a transgender man. He has produced and directed youth theatre in country Victoria, and written and recorded original songs on his album, Book of Dreams. He was a semi-finalist at the World Championship of Public Speaking in Chicago (2018). In his speaking engagements, both in person and in the media, he advocates for better understanding of LGBTIQ+ issues.
