Spring, 1828. After four years' assigned service, convict Matthew Hayes claims a plot of land on the south-eastern coast of Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). He finds it occupied by an old aboriginal woman, Wyemena, and her grand-daughter, Morana, who is desperate for a husband. But 'Mat-hays' already has a wife and soon their idyll is threatened by forces beyond their control.
Narrated by Wyemena herself, this is a tale of love, jealousy and revenge inspired by the history and landscape of Tasmania.
