During their High School years, John bullied James, who was the last in his class to develop physically. John and the in crowd played pranks on little Jimmy making his life a living hell. Years later, John’s son wins a scholarship to the prestigious Staten Island Academy, where James has been hired as the new principal.
In spite of James’ antipathy to John, who is elected the president of the Parent’s Association, James takes a liking to his son, provoking a double rivalry between the two.
Tension mounts between them when John’s son returns home distraught, reveals his homosexuality to this father, and that James, although a homosexual, does not love him.
Finally, Wentworth, who is caught up in feelings of resentment, jealousy and anger, confronts his nemesis, only to discover his own repressed love for his former classmate.
