For an ever-more bemused Lieutenant Miller, Royal Naval Reserve, the nightmares had begun during the Second World War - well, during Trapp's War as he bitterly recalled it: the one they'd fought aboard His Majesty's Coffin-ship Charon. And then had followed the Peace. But for Miller it wasn't to prove a relaxed, love-thy-shipmates sort of Peace for very long - Lord, no! Not when a brace of long-dead spectres resurface from his battle-frantic past: murder most foul and sea-going mayhem again become the norm - and an irascible, egotistic and utterly unrepentant modern-day buccaneer becomes his captain once more … whereupon Miller's previously uneventful Peace dissolves into violence yet again. Becomes, in fact, TRAPP's interpretation of Peace!

In this, the second adventure in Brian Callison's highly acclaimed five volume saga following the wake of his grumpy anti-hero, Captain Edward Trapp - to say nothing of Trapp's seedy shadow, Gorbals Wullie - through yet another shot, shell an' throat-cuttin' foray into high-seas skullduggery as chronicled by his now-Chief Officer, Miller.

But even Miller gets confused - well, YOU would too, if you suddenly found yourself having to dodge the Ice Man, Zarafiq, as well as the Hong Kong crime oligarch Mister Chang; vintage gangster movies buff and malevolent force for Oriental evil … and then there's all those other sinister Chinamen wit' da black suits an' the Chicago pianos - and all them very angry, clearly psychopathic Ayrabs. And the scuttling charges and the CIA and a Royal Navy admiral who makes Bligh of the 'Bounty' sound like a pussycat … AND being put in charge of Trapp's replacement crew of wannabe black-hearted international misfits such as the Captain's optically-challenged and collision-prone watch-keeper, Second Officer Spew, 'oo's brain don't work quite so good as 'is eye. The one that got the acid innit …

Shrug into your lifejacket before you hoist aboard this rollicking yarn. It reads like a Sudan pirate's handbook.

"Outrageously alive … his action scenes thunder along." DICK FRANCIS.
