If you think you are being stalked, chances are you are feeling a number of emotions; you may be scared, angry or confused. You may have talked to your family and friends and they may have given you advice on what to do. You may have also begun researching what government agencies or counselors recommend you do if you are being stalked. Much of this information is very informative. However, if you or a loved one is being stalked you may want more information. My spouse and I were stalked for almost 2 ½ years and we went searching for all the information we could find to help get us through it. We spoke to counselors, police officers, attorneys, family and friends and while we know they had good intentions we found that some of their advice was not practical. Not everyone will give you the best advice. At one point we spoke to a police officer who suggested that we move to a new house in the neighborhood and not let the stalker know our new address. We were shocked and speechless for a moment and then we again explained to the officer that we are being stalked and it will take about 2 days for the stalker to find us and follow us to our new residence, and all of the hassle of us moving will have been pointless. In the end you have to sift through all of the advice you receive and decide what suits your situation best. While we found that a lot of the information was informative, what we could not find was solid information from someone who had been through it. We were looking for someone who could explain why we needed to do these things and who could give us practical advice. This book is in no way a substitute for the help a law enforcement agency or attorney can provide you. However, it may help you approach attorneys and law enforcement in a way that increases their ability to provide the help you need as well as give you some additional information.
