We are a small-scale diversified farm located in the rugged, yet beautiful, Appalachian mountain range of Western North Carolina. We offer workshops to carry on the Mountain traditions of "Makin' do and Gettin' by". We have put together a small collection of those workshops offered in this first booklet of a series. We were offered an opportunity from Mayland Community College (Yancey Campus) to offer classes/workshops on campus or on-farm. Now, we are offering those handouts from the workshops in ebook format for those who couldn't be with us or those that are just curious about certain topics. We hope to encourage a second look at nature and all she has to offer to help us sustain our lives daily! The topics included in this booklet are: Basic Goat Info (Gonna Getcha Goat), Making Queso Blanco cheese, Making Cheddar-licious Farmhouse Cheddar, Tapping Your Own Maples using naturally made taps from Sumac and Growing Shiitake Mushrooms on logs. We are The Mushroom Hut @ Fox Farms. We will be offering more booklets which will include: Making Specialy Papers (we use corn husks and shiitake mushrooms), Making Teas/Tisanes (to include Sassafras), Pollinator Gardens for the natural beekeeper, growing hops for more than just beer, Flower Essence jellies, making corn husk dolls, A celebration of Corn (we grow Bloody Butcher Corn and grind into cornmeal) and much more.
