Building a new bridge between the rigid, formal world of syntax in machine-based, algorithmic data processing and the highly complex semantics of human understanding and communication in natural language is most probably the greatest challenge we face in our information age and knowledge society. But getting there along the path of algorithmic data processing alone is merely a pipe dream.
