Tobias George Smollett (1721 – 1771) was a brilliant Scottish poet and author. The universal fame in his times gained by means of his picaresque novels, such as The Adventures of Roderick Random (1748) and The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle (1751), which influenced later novelists such as Charles Dickens.

“The Life and Adventures of Sir Launcelot Greaves” is one of the best novels in the literary life of Tobias Smollett. It is novel that follows the traditional model of Eighteenth Century fiction but Smollett's special view of life shows it in a different view. The hero can simply appear at the door, and the same way suddenly disappear. The main character of the novel is Sir Launcelot is an eighteenth-century gentleman who rides about the country in armour, attended by his comic squire, Timothy Crabshaw, redressing grievances. These characters are often compared with Don Quixote and Sancho Panza characters. Have a nice reading.
