Saturday morning arrives muffled in grey. Not exactly fog, just silent and still water and pearly-silver sky. It is surreal, seeing sail boats float in the glimmering clouds…no I have not been smoking anything.

Our next-door neighbour is a sailboat with a man attached to its mast. The man is 25 feet in the air. He is attempting to do one handed repair work, the Captain is very happy that he does not have to do this type of aerial maintenance.

Saturday markets on Saltspring Island are legendary. Who knew that there were purple carrots? We have been paying attention to the genetic altering of foods and what we eat. They should be required to post if alterations are made to the food in the grocery store. (Basically they breed out the good stuff in food to make it look pretty so that we will eat it or alter it so that it will last forever)

There is emphasis on heritage seeds and organic farming here. Some species of carrot are purple, it was not as appealing to the eye apparently and so they are now that beautiful orange colour, what nutrients where lost in the process? Goat cheese arrives topped with flower petals, flavours of lemon and truffle, with a dash of garlic, it is really much better fresh I have to say, the Captain is fond of goats milk in any form, I need some convincing.
