Thomas Bailey Aldrich was an American poet, travel writer and editor. He wrote numerous tales, short-stories and novels. Most of his works were based on personal experience, so several stories represents the episodes of Aldrich’s own life. The action of “Père Antoine's Date-Palm” takes place in New Orleans and represents the tale about Père Antoine, an old priest, who died about twenty years ago.
