Catherine "Katie" Langloh Parker (1 May 1856 – 27 March 1940) was born at Australia and lived in New South Wales. She is well-known for recording the folk stories of the Aboriginal people. She is best known by her books such an “Australian Legendary Tales”, “Tales of the Dreamtime”, “Wise Women of the Dreamtime” and other.
“Mullyangah the Morning Star” is one of numerous Australian legends collected by Catherine Parker narrating about Mullyan, the eagle hawk which lived in a high yaraan tree apart from his tribe with his family. For Mullyan was a cannibal he had to satisfy his cannibal cravings using a big spear about four times bigger than an ordinary spear. So, he used to kill black fellows hunting alone, but some day many black fellows were slain that their friends determined to find out what became of them and they tracked the last one they missed and he followed them to the foot of the yaraan tree. What happened next you will know having read the story.
