In Making Lemonade from Life’s Lemons, the author chronicles his life from birth to the present. The author gives a raw account of some traumatic events in his past and how he overcame them. He owes his deliverance to the Lord and his wife of twelve years.
The author had a time growing up. He became sexually addicted at the age of twelve. He also drank and started using drugs as a teenager. He went into the Army at age 17 hoping to escape his problems, but they ended up catching up to him. He was released from the Army because of his issues.
When he was twenty, the author rededicated his life to the Lord. Within a few years, he found himself slipping back into his old patterns of behavior. He called it “working on his testimony.” It was during this time he was in and out of church.
Years later, he got back in the Army as a Reservist. He traveled to foreign countries. His drinking got pretty bad, and he started using crack cocaine. He knew that he was better than that when it came to drugs, but crack took control of him, and he did not see a way out.
One day, he defended his friend’s honor and was arrested as a result. After he was released from jail, his friend took him home with her. They married a few months later. She told him if he did crack again, she would call the sheriff. He and his wife got plugged into church and ministry.
The author should have died on more than one occasion. God had a plan, though. He revealed that plan to him a couple of years ago. He is at peace with God’s plan for him to be a pastor.
