If you are from a different country and culture then you know what I mean when I say “Stuck between Two Worlds.” Cultures vary, especially if you are from one of the Eastern countries living in one of the western countries. You live in one but must follow traditions of another.

The emotional hardship is unbearable at times, especially if your heart is in one place and other people are playing mind games to be in another place.

What’s the difference between the Eastern culture and Western culture?

Every culture is different and this is what makes us unique. We all have different values, traditions and preferences. One of the major differences is related to family. In the eastern cultures, you’ll find many members living under one roof with similar values and traditions. They are family oriented, so what the family says is what goes. The young generation is denied the ability to make his or her own decisions. You live the way they tell you to live. People sacrifice their dreams to make their families happy.

In the western culture, individuals are more independent. They build lives for themselves. Marital partners are chosen on their own, whereas with the eastern culture, partners are chosen for you. Many times, career choices and educational choices are also forced upon the younger generation.

This is not 100% the case in all situations but it is a problem when a person from the east moves to the west with family. Many times, there is a clash and this causes anger and hurt for both parties. A difficult choice must be made. What do you do? Do you choose family or do you do what your heart tells you to do? Do you change your beliefs and traditions to the new culture?

One of the main negative aspects of living in one culture and being from another is marriage and relationships. Which one do you choose? Do you choose the option that makes your family happy or the one that you are happy with?
Relationships suffer because of the differences no matter where you come from.
