Detective Maggie Baxter had always been straight and by the book. He flicked a glance at me. "I don't know. You should ask Mr Hunter."
"I — Just answer the question, Mr Callaghan."
He smiled. "Of course."
"Is Mr Hunter single?"
There was a flash in Riley's eyes but he quickly masked it before he replied, still in that steady voice of his, "He's not married."
"Any girlfriend, or girlfriends?"
"Is this relevant?"
"I'm the one asking question here, Mr Callaghan," I smiled.
"Wasn't aware the PD was concerned about gossip."
I rolled my eyes. "You've been doing great deflecting questions so far, you know. This one was below par. You know we have to ask questions like this."
Now he raised both hands. "Heath goes out with a number of women. The arrangement between them, how serious the thing is, I have no idea."
"Who are the latest?"
Riley threw me a quick glance. "I don't know them. I don't," he added when he saw me frowning. "I know them by sight, sometimes first names but that's it."
"Is she one of the latest?" I put down the picture of Gina Craig and pushed it toward him.
Nudging the picture closer, Riley took a look, his eyes widened. I frowned when he suddenly started laughing.
"No way," he shook his head. "I've never seen her — and she's not at all Heath's type."
"Is that so? What's Mr Hunter's type?"
This time Riley didn't try to hide the flash in his eyes. "Someone like you."
