This continuation of Death Squad represents part three of the fifth novel written by Lee Atterbury in a series devoted to the tales of Jim Taylor and his horse Buck. Entitled In the Crosshairs, the story takes some unexpected turns.

The sheriff sends Jim and Lucy off into the wilderness to check on the welfare of three elderly hermits. What starts off as an idyllic ride ends up in a gun fight. As he watches his young companion, Jim's doubts about Lucy grow. And there is more trouble on the horizon. Jim is forced to take a trip down memory lane and confront his troubled conscience.
