HE COMES TO HER NAKED - LITERALLY AND FIGURATIVELY
A GODLING DEVOID OF HIS MEMORY
He doesn't even know his name, but when young and beautiful Mexican-American Sofia saves the exotic young man from drowning (incidentally crashing into her monotonous and uneventful life), he has nothing but his naked flesh and his empty memories.
Sofia's family takes him in, names him Gabriel, and since then he helps in the upkeep of her parents' Bread & Breakfast in return. He is a hard worker and he never complains, but behind his handsome face and sad eyes, there is a mystery that Sofia can instinctively detect.
He is more than just human. He can make eggs hatch chicks a few hours before they were laid, and his moods seem to command the jungle just behind the villa. And what about the snakes that seem to act according to his unconscious needs? Strange subtle things start to happen since she meets him, and his scant memory cannot explain these to either both of them.
And yet... they are falling for each other fast. There is no memory of his past, but they are making new ones after hours, when her parents are sleep and they can explore the mysteries of the dark sky and each other. Then Americans arrive and rekindle Sofia's desire to come back to Boston where she had grown up. Accompanying the research team to the jungle in search of sacred cenotes, Gabriel's people finds him, kidnaps Sofia and the others, and brings them to their village deep in the jungle to torment them.
Gabriel is Ahau, born to be a human sacrifice to the gods. He has somehow survived the first fall to the sacred cenote, but they are readying him again for the second fall. And this time, they mean for him to die.
Can Ahau's mysterious power save them? Or did she save him in the beach twice, only to lose him, her life, and the others' the third time he drowns?

“So it wasn’t because you’re jealous of Sam? I swear, I have no interest in him rather than he makes me remember back home.”
“That worries me, too,” he agreed reluctantly. “But only because it’s a man thing, I think, to get jealous or defensive of another who wants to poach on his territory.”
She couldn’t help but smile at that. “Ah, so you remember something like that, huh?”
He finally smiled at her, and it felt so good that she kissed him again. “No, I wasn’t interested in Sam like that. You’re my man, you know.”
He was looking down at her with an unreadable expression on his handsome face, but his eyes were deep pools of green so dark it was almost black, and it made her heart race in a different reason. “When you find that you want something very badly, and I am blocking your way to it, promise me you will let me go, Sofia. Alright? I don’t want to be the man that will hold you back. I want you to have the world, even if I have to stay back for you to have it.”
“Gabriel, why are you saying such things?” she asked, even though she suspected that if she would dig deeply, she would find the answer on her own.
He smiled again and it told her he knew this, too.
