Two 18-year-olds graduate from high school. Paul was the high school football hero and Phyliss was the plain-jane girl who wrote Paul's English themes to keep him eligible to play football.
Paul gets injured in his final high school game and his dreams of a college football career vanish. Paul gets a job as a mechanic/fixer upper and then proposes to no longer plain-jane Phyliss. Phyliss accepts and the two get married. Paul works, Phyliss works as a secretary and they're just another young married couple starting out.
Phyliss then is chosen Miss Downtown Business Association. Suddenly, it seems that every businessman in town wants to screw Phyliss. Paul and Phyliss don't want this to happen. Probably as a result, they both lose their jobs. Paul continues to get some temp work but Phyliss really can't find work as a temp secretary. The young couple quickly get into financial difficulty.
Gradually, Phyliss is forced to compete in strip contests to keep the couple afloat financially. Phyliss wins the first topless strip contest with cleverness as much as tits. However, Phyliss can still not find work and Paul finds only occasional work. Phyliss is again forced to enter a strip contest, this time to nude. Phyliss again wins the strip contest and again uses cleverness.
It's become obvious that Phyliss is being forced into stripping in order for the young couple to survive financially. However, Paul gradually finds out that it's not only the Downtown Business Association guys forcing Phyliss to strip, it's also a businesswoman named Rebecca. With the combination of the Downtown Business Association guys and Rebecca, it seems that Phyliss will be forced to basically become a whore.
Paul gradually finds out that the real driving force behind forcing Phyliss into being a stripper is Rebecca's desire to herself strip. Rebecca wants to strip and screw customers to punish her husband. However, Rebecca first wants Phyliss to 'test the waters.'
Phyliss quickly displays a talent for stripping/acting. Paul and Phyliss can combine to figure out winning strip routines and Phyliss is able to win the contests. Phyliss doesn't just get on stage and dump her laundry. Each of Phyliss strip routines is thought out and described in detail. Then again it's not just Phyliss' dancing, it's the clever use of costumes and how she gets out of them. Phyliss also uses a lot of tease along with the strip. However, each contest is raunchier than the last one. As Phyliss must display more and more of herself, tensions grow between Paul and Phyliss.
Finally Phyliss must not only strip in a bar, but also screw a customer who draws the lucky winning ticket. Paul uses low animal cunning to be the 'lucky customer' who screws Phyliss backstage.
Rebecca then decides to herself strip. However, in order to sell the situation, Phyliss must again strip to nude and this time agree to screw several customers. Also Phyliss must train Rebecca to strip to nude, while Paul watches.
Paul not only again manages to be the first guy to screw Phyliss backstage he also arranges to be the last and only guy and also to have Rebecca's business rivals screw Rebecca and some of her society lady friends.
After the big strip contest, Paul and Phyliss are now able to survive financially. Paul has a steady job with the people who screwed Rebecca and protection from Rebecca's revenge. However, the protection will only last so long.
However, Paul has managed to attract the attention of a small movie company to Phyliss' natural acting talent and manages to get Phyliss an audition for a B movie.
