A guy graduates from college, returns to his home town and marries his high school sweetheart. Then things start to break down. His wife is cheating on him and he gets a divorce.
The guy works long hours at his job, but somehow finds and marries a girl who believes in him. Well, she believes in him until she meets Randy Rockstar. Then she runs off with him. The guy gets an annulment.
His lack of success with women doesn't go unnoticed at work. He's a laughingstock for the employees and he gets treated like crap by management.
He tries to find another job. But, despite lots of experience in areas that are in demand, no one will even consider hiring him.
He finally gets to go to a professional conference, since he's the only guy who knows how a new process works. There's lots of interest in his presentation, but no one with a job wants to talk to him.
What he does is to use the conference as a springboard for a little vacation at Cancun, Mexico. He gets to the resort, puts on a bathing suit, rents a beach chair and umbrella and buys a large tequila! He's soaking up sun and tequila and feeling great for the first time in a long time.
Another couple are having a real knockdown drag out battle, just down the beach. She starts to walk away and he tells her he'll have her brought back. “...Even the swimsuit you're wearing is mine!” She takes off the top and throws it at him. Not one for half measures, she then takes off the bottom and also throws it at him. Finally, she stalks down the beach toward the guy.
The guy then offers the lady a towel. She sees him coming and makes cat claws of her fingers. He tells her, “They'll arrest you for walking nude on the beach here in Mexico, a conservative Catholic country. It doesn’t bother me, but why do you let them throw you in jail and waste the sun and the beach?”
The lady thinks things over and asks, “May I have your towel, please?”
The guy and the lady then walk along the beach for a while, sipping at his tequila. They also talk.
As they walk, the lady describes herself as, '… just a whore.”
The guy discovers that she's actually a courtesan.
Over the remainder of the vacation, the courtesan shows the guy a very upper class world that the guy didn't even know existed. After the vacation, the guy discovers that a courtesan has a lot of power in that world.
The courtesan lives in a world of luxury. All the guy has to offer is a ring. Will it be enough?
