When detective Clint Smart got his first assignment after he received his detective title, he was put on a five years old cold case file. It took him several weeks to read through everything that was written. Clint had been asked to re-interview all the people involved with this gruesome murder case. A Miss Linda Tower had been killed. She had been shot in the head, strangled, had a knife stuck in her chest and was drowned in a bathtub filled with water. Although it to start with looked like a clear-cut case, Not one of the many suspects could be taken for the crime. Now five years later it was expected that detective Smart should clear up the mess.
He started by interviewing a young man, Rick Cloud. He to start with didn't want to say a word. I gave my story to that other detective five years ago, that's enough for me. It took Rick's mother to make him tell detective Smart what he knew. After Rick Cloud, it was time to visit Bill Laurence. A fifty years old man that lived by himself. As Smart knocked at the door, he was met with a shotgun in his face. It took some discussion to make Laurence start telling what he knew. Then when Smart asked why he opened the door with a shotgun in his hand. It turned out after Rick Cloud and Bill Laurence had met again, things started to fit together. When the police came to pick up both of them, they had together left the country.
Together with Interpol and local police in Germany the two escapes where taken into custody and later sent back to the state to stand trial for the killing of Linda Tower.
