I've always loved Haiku and have attempted to write them before but always got stuck on the traditional, locked in 5-7-5 syllable count. My dad gave me Jack Keourac's book of Haiku for my birthday one year and he invented his own system, whereby he eschewed the syllable count and kept the three line system, as he thought that better for Western speech. I liked the idea of inventing my own Haiku system but I still wanted to keep a syllable count, just to have some sort of regimen to adhere to. While walking my dogs one day, I experimented with the count and found that, certainly for my speech, thirteen syllables was perfect. Hence these 50 Haiku. I have many more but, this is a good start.
