Unlike his first two years as editor of Zion's Trumpet, John S. Davis was a married man when he published the first issue of the 1851 volume. The marriage between him and Elizabeth Phillips took plan on 30 December 1850 in Merthyr Tydfil. He moved from his residence on Nantygwenith Street to one on John Street, both located int he same neighborhood of Georgetown, Merthyr Tydfil. Elizabeth, eighteen months John's junior, had just turned twenty-seven. Both were the only ones from their families to convert to Mormonism. The publication of Latter-day Saint materials in Wales became a joint venture.

Another change John S. Davis made at that time was the format of Zion's Trumpet. Instead of the twelve monthly issues with a four-page printed wrapper he had used for the first two volumes, he published the third volume twice monthly in sixteen-page issues prices at a penny each.

In the 24 December 1851 foreword to the third volume of Zion's Trumpet John looked back on the year and declared that he had "experienced the greatest responsibility of [his] life." Not only had he published twenty-six issues of the periodical, he had also translated and published the entire Doctrine and Covenants and over half the Book of Mormon.

A "facsimile translation" into English of the 1849 volume was published in 2001 by Ronald D. Dennis, professor emeritus of Welsh at Brigham Young University. Ten years later in 1022, he published a "facsimile translation" of the 1850 volume. He now presents the 1851 volume, translated and edited according to the "facsimile" format previously established. Again,t he physical appearance of the Welsh original has been reproduced with similar typefaces and layout.
