Based on a true story, this is the disturbing tale of a young boy’s struggle, growing up with a dysfunctional family on a south London council estate where violence, alcohol,
drugs and a complete disregard for a young child’s feelings and interests were commonplace. It is the tale of a nightmare world for a young boy living with constant abuse from both family and family friends, both physical and mental.

Let down by social workers who were not there to protect him, the struggle features challenges that were constantly thrown at him from his violent mother and her violent partners, to the continual torments of bullies at school. His reaction to the rejections regularly encountered from people he had believed he could trust are laid bare. In the final analysis it is a tale of how despite everything this young person went through, he still mustered the determination to succeed and to make a better life for himself.

Some names and places have been changed to protect the innocent.

Author’s Note

They say you can't choose your family, but you can choose your friends. The one thing that I have been truly blessed with is great friends, past and present. For the lovely people that have sadly passed from this world, this book is for you. I will always treasure all the wonderful memories and times that I have shared with you. To all of you, I'm sorry I cannot name people individually, but you know who you are. I want to thank you. I feel honoured to count each and every one of you as my true friends.
