SHARING SOME THOUGHTS ON THE ‘WORLD OF WRITERS’:
WRITERS ON THE WRITING JOURNEY

INTRODUCTION
These are some of my notes about “the writing journey”, that I have jotted down over the years; so sharing these thoughts, which may be included in a new “work”, “a labour of art and love”…

“Writing is the only profession where no one considers you ridiculous if you earn no money.
- Jules Renard

« “As things stand now, I am going to be a writer. I’m not sure that I’m going to be a good one or even a self-supporting one, but until the dark thumb of fate presses me to the dust and says, ‘you are nothing’, I will be a writer.”
- Hunter Thompson

“The best style is the style you don’t notice.”
– Somerset Maugham

“A good style should show no signs of effort. What is written should seem a happy accident.”
– W. Somerset Maugham

“The best way to learn about a subject is to write a book about it.”

“I do my thinking through my fingers…and clarify them by typing them on my computer”
- me

“There are no great writers; there are only great re-writers.”
- Ian Fleming (author of James Bond…or was it James Michener who said it?)

“Love is the answer to everything. It’s the only reason to do anything. If you don’t write stories you love, you’ll never make it. If you don’;t write stories that other people love, you’ll never make it.”
- Ray Bradbury, American writer, died recently age 91

“For many writers, perhaps most creative people, writing is a form of therapy, in which they are trying to make sense of the world they live in.”
May keep me sane then!
"You don’t have to be crazy to live here, but it certainly helps!”

“Writers try to make sense of their lives through their ‘work’. Writing gives meaning to their lives and often their best writing is done in times of personal crisis. In these times an ‘effort-less style’ arises from a sense of loss, where sadness is the well-spring of a writer’s creativity.”
"I write because I simply HAVE to”
"Writers help readers to see the world differently."
"I write because something inside myself, inner and unconscious forces me to." That is the first compulsion. The second is one of ethical and moral duty.”
“I write about and believe in the resilience of humanity- I truly believe in the triumph of the human spirit.”
- craig

“Writers, like racing drivers, challenge themselves and their readers in new ways, They find new niches. I want to continually test my own writing “limits”, the “boundaries of my imagination.”

I love writing about ‘ordinary’ (what’s that?) people doing extra-ordinary things. I find these stories hugely empowering and inspirational on my own journey “on the path less travelled”. I hope they may be uplifting, empowering and perhaps even inspirational to you too. Enjoy…

“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They already somehow know what you truly want to become.”

“I want to write the way Gilles Villeneuve drove and power-slid his blood-red Formula One Ferrari with wild enthusiasm and a sense of abandonment, combined with the artists craft of a Stirling Moss, a Jim Clark, and especially that of the great Ayrton Senna, living on the razor-blade edge of life.”

All the world will be happier and better, when the men and women have the souls of artists, like that of an Ayrton Senna.”
- craig (as inspired by Rodin’s famous words)

“When you’re writing there are times when you feel it’s a bit of a struggle. However, at other times you’re in what is called ‘the zone’ and writing just feels effortless. This happens when finding the right words is no longer a struggle; but this heightened state, as with most crafts usually comes with practice. Then words simply flow into your head faster than you can write them down (or can press the keyboard). But you have to really push your writing limits to get this kind of experience. “
Then later you look what you’ve written and think: “Bloody hell. That’s good. Did I really write that seemingly without much effort? Wonder where all that came from (a cerebral thing or “outer space”!”
- A “nony-moose” writer (as inspired by Overdrive: Formula One in the Zone)
