"Writer, Writer" begins with a fire in the Home Management House at the University of Alabama. Who knew a flaming chicken would turn a would be Home Economist into a reporter and eventually into the author of eight books? Even more exciting for me, one of those novels, "A Flower Blooms on Charlotte Street" became a wonderful movie based on a childhood story about my grandmother in "The Adventures of Ociee Nash."
I've always wanted to be an encourager for other writers and do so when I speak to writer's groups. Now this book will afford me an opportunity to reach a wider audience, and I am thrilled at the possibilities.
Not an easy journey, I recently burned a stack of rejection slips. That said, I kept the faith and listened to my writing coach, who always said, "Becoming published is ten percent talent, ninety percent persistence." She was right!
Sometimes I felt like a bug splattering on a windshield time and time again. Was it worth the effort? Yes, indeed!
This book pries open my soul revealing personal family stories. Hopefully, the healing and redemption of some of these pieces will offer help to others.
Primarily, "Writer, Writer" is a lighter look at all sorts of craziness and dysfunction, tremendous love and triumph, all seen through the eyes of this storyteller. I'm proud of my work and trust the reader will laugh and cry throughout the read.
