Kate Talbot, blinded by the psychopath who killed her husband and unborn child, retreats from the world into an existence played out on her computer screen where life ends and begins at will. Her former partner in their detective agency has no right to ask her to investigate a series of fatal accidents at a school for disabled children, she keeps telling him, as she finds herself becoming interested.
