This book shares reflections on retiring from 70 people who have retired. In their own voices they tell us whether they planned for retirement and how they felt about being retired as they go through the process, especially in the early stages. For many this is a major life change. You will bring your own thoughts and feelings to the pieces the book contains. As you read, the contributions will probably prompt you to question how you feel about retiring, think about how it will relate to your situation and reflect on how you might want to change your approach. You will make of it what you will. Contributors were invited to write in any way they wished about:
- any planning they did in advance
- the extent to which the reality matched their expectations
- the strategies they developed for coping with anything they find difficult
- the best bits of retirement
- any painful parts
- anything they wish they’d known or done earlier
If you are soon to retire or have already done so, or if you know someone else approaching retirement, this book should stimulate questions and challenge the code of silence surrounding what it really feels like to be retired.
