Hockey is one of the fastest and most dynamic sports. The skill and coordination of elite players is absolutely breathtaking as is their endurance and courage. Most players are not at this level and while the national competitions are inspirational, they are a long way from junior hockey.
Hockey starts for most players at school. The school perhaps has a physical education class that lets the children have a go at a variety of sports and hockey may be one of them. Some schools have sports teams and seek volunteers at about 11 or 12 years of age. For junior players and even some lower grade seniors, knowing what they are supposed to be doing on the field in any given position is a big first step. Often the instruction to a new player is all of one sentence or at best two.... “You’re a wing, run up and down the sideline. Score some goals.”
This book is simply titled: “What’s My Job?” and it is aimed at newer players and teams in need of some basics as a launch pad for their hockey development.
