We, the Enslaved

"We, the Enslaved is the story of a university professor who uncovers, by accident, disunity amongst African and African American students in his class. Rather than view it as a problem that pertains only to his students, he sees it as a problem that may be facing Africans all over the world and decides to confront it, even while aware that he may fail. But this awareness does not deter him, as failure to him was the beginning of success, and not trying at all the beginning of failure. He must first identify areas of inconsistencies and try to make sense of them with his students. While at it, however, he discovers, in black people as a whole, a deep-seated hatred of themselves—of who they are as a people and of one another—and, also, that this hatred of the self is more psychological than anything else—a sort of mental imprisonment that must be overcome."
