I. BOOK LOGLINE:

A traumatized Claire Eve Richardson seeks vengeance after the murder of her entire family due to hate crimes decades ago, but the only way she can fulfill her longing desire is to manipulate two bias homicide detectives who are unknowingly working the same homicide case in two different states.

II. BOOK SYNOPSIS:

It is 1975. The M26 grenade is a popular item on the market, someone paid loads of cash to rent out an abandoned underground auditorium, a deceased body was stolen from a cemetery, and two police evidence rooms were inundated with toy rag dolls. It was just the beginning; it was part of a much bigger plan as the tables have turned on two bias Detectives when they also discover that murder has evolved into something more sinister, which they cannot control. The reluctant Officers finally set aside their racial differences when one falls in love with the victim’s ex-girlfriend who has a secret vendetta that dates back 23 years ago. However, their questionable alliance is threatened when a tortured victim found alive in the attic of a crime scene, sheds new light on their grey relationship, and the chaos in both their cities.

III. GLOBAL CONCERNS:

The Oxford dictionary defines racism as a “prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.” With that being said, the majority of Americans say that race relations are very bad in the United States, and expressing racist views has become more common under President Trump, according to a new study by the Pew Research Center. Moreover, prosecutors wanted to charge an influential celebrity of staging a hate crime as well as any other subordinates who interfered with the Chicago police investigation. This questionable assault only created a wider wedge between Americans, especially with the widespread of Islamophobia where 72 Philadelphia officers were accused of posting racist and anti-Muslim comments on social media. Furthermore, mass shootings fueled by hate are a growing concern in America. Unfortunately, this absurd commonality has increased in other parts of the world - Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia, and South Africa, and the public believes that it may gradually worsen over time. The news media broadcasts “newsworthy” reports about racism or hate crimes, which is understandable because its purpose is to report recent happenings. However, these hate crime reports are now negatively saturated, which creates the inability to understand the issue and make effective critical decisions - people are more likely to ignore, conform, or accept the more intimidating or influential message. Psychologists have case studies of this type of information overload or “desensitization.”

VI. BOOK OBJECTIVE:

UNITY is for those who want help against racism – a different and a stimulating approach as to how to understand the overwhelming issue, and how to deal with its discriminating beliefs, its sinister tactics, pseudo-science, and impractical methods through eclectic storytelling, existing knowledge, and more. While being entertained, this critical thinking story may give a clearer perception about the benefits of diversity, and offer some psychological insight as to how to confront and circumvent racism’s fallacious ideology, which is taught academically by scholars, professionals, and organizations taking action against this worldwide issue. Moreover, the author’s re-imagined historical fiction about two racist police Detectives is taking a dark page from America’s past, and revisiting it to help today’s people around the world who want better race relations and equality, who are clearly aware about the dangers of hate crimes, and of a psychologically intolerant society.

V. BOOK COVER IDEA:

In addition to the increasing hate crime reports in the news media, the purpose of the author’s vintage newspaper book cover was to set a positive and different approach using excerpts from the novella and more, and to show that hate crimes do have a deadline with the power of unity.
