There is no fear in the eyes of a new born baby; only curiosity. There is no curiosity in the eyes of an old man; only fear. Between these two extremes, the whole world exists. We first learn to be afraid, then condition that learning and after a few decades fear becomes the most fundamental  "Mantra" recited by our soul in the background of its peripheral existence in this world. The unpredicted blows of fate eat away our trust in life like a termite and our subconscious mind is always trembling because of its belief in the probability of a crocodile in every lake that appears to be calm on the surface. Our fear is not illogical or irrational; it has got its roots in our first hand experiences of life and those experiences could even be from some past incarnation of ours. The wound heals; the scar remains. Our fear is the sum-total of all such scars.
