167 Photos! Toddlers to teens.

Two Months in Europe: Avec des Enfants documents the 57-day trip I took with my husband and our two young children. From Great Britain to France, then to Italy and back to France, the details of our trip are chronicled in journal form and supplemented with pictures, general information about the locations we visited, web links (over 500!), and additional resource suggestions.

The goal? To travel to our ultimate destinations (with our kids!); to get out of the U.S. and our comfort zone; and to explore the history, culture, and landscapes of Western Europe.

Even the most careful traveler can’t anticipate everything. The challenges of tired feet, hungry stomachs, and the occasional emergency (little ones who needed to “pee NOW”) demand levelheadedness, patience, and improvisation. Yes, things didn’t always work out as planned, but it was all part of the adventure and definitely worth it in the end. Read along and discover how we did it.

Locations visited:

•England: Winchcombe, Cheltenham, Warwick, Swindon, Longleat, Avebury, Bath, Cotswolds, Hidcote Gardens, Ludgershall Ruins, Minster Lovell Hall, Blenheim Palace, London

•Wales: Dan-yr-Ogof Caves and Carreg Cennen

•France: Paris, Versailles, Chambord, Cheverny, Chenonceaux, Saint-Malo, Le Mele-sur-Sarthe, Alençon, Le Mémorial de Caen, Pointe du Hoc, Arromanches, Chartres, Chamonix, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Èze, Bédoin, Mt. Ventoux, Vaison-la-Romaine, Les Baux, Seguret, Carpentras, Roussillon, Saint-Saturnin-les-Apt, Pont du Gard, Collioure, Peyrepertuse, Alet-les-Bains, Périgueux, Excideuil, Brive, Rocamadour, Les Grottes de Lacave, Hautefort, Sarlat, Beynac, Disneyland Paris

•Switzerland: Geneva

•Italy: Mont Blanc Tunnel, Portovenere, Castelfalfi, San Gimigiano, Chianti, Siena, Orvieto, Reggello, Cinque Terre (Vernazza, Monterosso, Riomagiore, Manorola, and Corniglia)
