In this story the main character repeatedly intersect with the impressive figure of Harald Sigurdsson, who served the emperor for many years before he traveled back to Scandinavia and became King of Norway. Erik Sigvaldsson continued to serve King Harald after their first meeting in Constantinople, and followed him in his quest to conquer England.
