A victim of a workplace accident, Dave lives alone. His Postlady's daily visit is one of the highlights of an otherwise dull life. He used to be able to win over women like Mandy easily with his chat. Now they just seem to pity him. People form Social Services and various charities call round to help with making adjustments to his kitchen and bathrooms, but they make him feel like an old person. He just wants his old life back. But that's not going to happen.

One day a woman from an accident claims company call-centre telephones to offer help making a personal injury claim. Happy for the company, Dave tells her at length all about his accident. Soon the whole call-centre is listening-in. Dave enjoys the attention, but all does not end well.

There is humour in this story but pathos is the overriding emotion.
