With miles of paths, thousands of lakes and a creek that could carry him through the city, twelve year old Danny Norman’s life was exciting and adventurous. At least it was until his best friend, Claire, goes halfway across the country for the summer. All of the exploring and pranks that they planned to play on his spiteful old neighbor, Mr. Dietz, would not be much fun alone.

Bored, Danny goes back to his favorite area to look for treasures in the creek bed and he thinks he’s struck gold when he unburies a chest. Inside, an ominous golden boomerang forcefully takes him to an alternate dimension showing him a world that could have been. A single child living with his mother, Danny discovers the father that he lost to an accident when he was only two is still alive and old Mr. Dietz is an entirely different person. But is it really the happy place he thinks it is?

Placing his faith in a different Mr. Dietz, Danny learns that there have been others who crossed over, and their fates have all been detrimental. Danny soon discovers that he has to get back to his world quickly and undetected, but the chest along with the boomerang have mysteriously disappeared. Can he find his way home before it’s too late?
