“Three and One are One” is a story of a twenty-two years old young man Barr Lassister, who lived with his parents and elder sister near Carthage, Tennessee in 1861. When the war came on it found in the family, as in so many others in that State, a divided sentiment; the young man was loyal to the Union, the others savagely hostile. Barr entered the Union troops of General Buell, a Kentucky regiment cavalry. Time passed and so happened that their troops were near his home after few years. He grew older and now his anger had been forgotten so he wanted to see his family. He asked for a vacation and got it. And when he approached to his home he saw his father. Barr cried “Father, it’s your son!” his father just looked him sternly in the face motionless and without a ward withdrew into the house. Barr followed him and met his mother and sister but their impressions were all the same. Why did his parents act? Read the story and find out!
