Drafted into the service although married and with three children, Dr. Conlon finds himself tasked to work with the Montagnard tribesmen. He is working under what he believes to be an Air Force Major who is in fact a Central Intelligence operative. His 13-month tour ends with his return to civilian life. Over time, he learns more about the true nature of his work in Vietnam.and what impact it had on how the end of the war falls into place.

His CIA contact has since died and Dr. Conlon is now free of a self-imposed moral obligation to withhold publishing until his death occurred.
