The Will

The narrator, intrigued by the fact that his friend René de Bourneval does not carry the same name as his brothers , gets him a secret about his origins. His mother, Madame de Courcils , was married to a country gentleman , a boor who had married her for her money and he was cheating with the servants , girls and women of his tenants . Yet she had two boys with him, who , like their father, their mother still regarded as a good sort .
