The Truce is a story about Hershey, a dog that moves from the city to a country neighborhood. Hershey is planning on living a peaceful life here, but he soon finds out that it will not be possible. During his second day in the country, he meets Two-Too, the next- door neighbors rooster. Their first encounter is not a very pleasant one, so from then on, Two-Too decides to make life uncomfortable for Hershey. Two-Toos deliberate daily taunting aggravates Hershey tremendously, but his kennel keeps him from doing anything to take care of this dilemma. Because of Two-Toos constant provocation, Hershey s demeanor begins to change, which worries his master. His master tries to help Hershey feel better, so he moves him from the kennel to a new living area, which makes Hershey happier. Here he is able to move around more freely even though his collar is connected to a thirty foot cable that is tied to a basketball pole. It is in this new place that Hershey attempts to take care of the aggravating problem on his own, giving Two-Too many close calls. These scary, close encounters didnt discourage Two-Too from bothering Hershey though. After many months of exhibiting despicable behavior toward Hershey and getting the scare of his life several times, Two-Too decides to come up with a plan for survival. Read this entertaining short story, The Truce, to find out what Two-Toos plan for survival is.
