Three short stories tell tales from the past, present, and future.

“The Time Prize”: A brilliant but weak-willed physicist, the scion of a long line of failures and ne’er-do-wells, does battle with his inner demons as he tries to crack the code of safe time travel. To his aid comes a mysterious woman who may have a hidden agenda.

“The Final Testament of William Crook, Once a Bodyguard to the President”: William Crook was one of the handful of policemen who were given the responsibility of protecting the life of President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War. Steadfast and trustworthy, he only failed once: He couldn’t prevent Lincoln from going to Ford’s Theatre and his rendezvous with death. He spends the rest of his life haunted by his failure and what he didn’t prevent.

“Ghost of a Chance”: A hard-nosed county sheriff encounters a young woman who may or may not be the spirit of a murder victim from decades ago, and curiosity and concern turn to obsession.
