Jesus Himself underscored the great importance of the Ten Commandments when He told us that these precepts hold the secrets to loving God and loving our fellow man: And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and [o]foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” When others compete with our love for God and our fellow man, our relationship to God and to others is ruined. Living life to the fullest then is a matter of love, begging the questions: Who do we love? What do we love? In an engaging and clear writing style the author helps us analyze and think about the commandments. In the process he insists that only by loving God and our neighbor —as God requires— do we find true joy and fulfillment in life. Furthermore, it’s this God ordered love that permits us to live life as it was designed by our Creator.
