“We need her!” the voice whispers again and knowing what it means, Charlie nods in agreement. Maize his granddaughter will be arriving soon and Charlie has to find a way to tell her the secret, his secret. Somehow he has to make her believe.
You see, Charlie was an award winning weather man in his younger days and now Maize would be following in his footsteps, starting her internship at the same station as Charlie did his. They had always shared a delight in the weather with all it nuances. Maize had lived for the blissful times when Charlie would tell another one of was those tales, those fanciful stories, about the creatures that controlled all that was cold and the frightening monsters that controlled that which was hot, but they were just stories, right?
As a young man just out in the new world of television and doing the weather, Charlie could dismiss the first voice he heard as a part of his imagination or maybe nerves, but when they began to reoccur and a strange old man began showing up at all the places that Charlie frequented, it became more difficult to dismiss.
One evening, Charlie climbed the steps to his apartment to find the strange, old man waiting for him at his front door. The man claimed that his name was Jack Frost and told an incredible tale of Beings calling the Snow makers and their evil counterparts the Lavictins. Charlie’s only thought was that the man must have been mad, but when the old fellow turned a steaming hot cup of tea into ice just by blowing on it, Charlie would have to reconsider.
Taking a chance, Charlie plays along as Jack teaches him how to fall into something called an artic slumber; supposedly this would take him behind the veil into this new world. Skeptical, he closes his eyes and awakens, freezing cold with a creature perched on top of him, with the Beings face with its large aqua eyes is just inches away from Charlie’s. Obviously, having no concept of personal space. It smiles and cocks its head.
This Being is about the size of a twelve year old child, with a pale almost blue complexion and when it begins to speak, it is in rudimentary sentences. Terrified and intrigued Charlie looks around and finds that there was many more of them, curiously watching him. He knew then that there would be no turning back now.
Soon Charlie is introduced to this mystical place and the history that connects both worlds together. The Snow Makers welcome him and he delights in his new found friends and their magic, but it’s not long before the evil that torments and seeks to destroy them, makes its presence known. Now Charlie must help to keep the heat controlling Lavictins, whose main goal is to turn the world we know, into a hot desolate, ball of scorched ground, from taking over. If not kept in check, both world will become a place where no human or Snow Maker can ever survive. Leaving only the Lavintins and the monsters that control them called magmarns to rule over all that we know.
With a foot in both worlds, his life and legacy are forever linked to the creatures known as the Snow Makers; and with a little bit of luck, Charlie will be able to convince Maize to once again follow in his footsteps.
